"I am so incredibly thankful for each mini-grant I have received from the Pitt County Educational Foundation! In 2019, my fourth graders were able to read high-interest nonfiction articles from the Wild Side and Outer Edge series. They absolutely loved reading the nonfiction articles and sharing what they learned with others!" - Claire Maxwell (Wahl Coates Elementary)
"Last year I received a mini-grant to buy 13 ukuleles for Falkland Elementary and it completely changed my students' outlook on music. They love mastering new chords and songs and even accompanying themselves while singing. I am so thankful to give my students this opportunity to expand their musical knowledge with a very hands on experience." - Kathryn Jones (Falkland Elementary) |
Mini-grants
Pitt County Educational Foundation Mini-grants are cash rewards to teachers for creative and innovative classroom projects. Each attendance area has a mini-grant advisory committee that decides on the method of raising funds, the selection of mini-grants and along with the teachers, the evaluation of the mini-grants. Selection committees evaluate each proposal for its innovative educational nature, realistic goals, reasonable budget, and activities, which include direct involvement of students. Project allocations may be for materials, equipment, and other items necessary to carry out the proposed projects. Funds to make the mini-grants possible are donated by local businesses, industries, civic groups, individuals and the Pitt County Educational Foundation. In the 2019-2020 school year, 107 mini-grants totally over $37,000 were awarded to teachers throughout Pitt County Schools. Annual donations are crucial to the success of this program. |
